Research Area
My research involves the development of a mathematical framework for the
reverse-engineering of biochemical systems. The models used in this
work are time- and state-discrete finite dynamical systems, described by
polynomial functions over a finite field. This novel approach, rooted in
computational algebra, uses Groebner-basis techniques to build the set of
all discrete models that fit time series data and to select minimal models
from this set. The method has been specifically designed for experimental
data from biochemical networks, where the data may take the form of time
series of mRNA, protein, and/or metabolite concentrations. This work is
currently being applied to an oxidative stress response network in yeast.
